Shelter Island, NY was the backdrop for Kelly and Alex’s wedding. If you are a New Yorker and want a destination wedding without all of the flying across the world business, than Shelter island is a perfect location. It’s picturesque locations paired with its friendly people and laid back attitude makes it an ideal wedding locale.
The couple rented several properties on Air BnB, which provided lovely accommodations for family and friends, and made for beautiful getting ready images. The couple had their ceremony at the Union Chapel in the historic Shelter Island Heights. A close friend of the couple officiated the ceremony and he tailored it perfectly to fit the bride and groom.
After the ceremony we headed over to Wades Beach, one of the many beaches on the Island, to do some portraits. The bridal party and family were extremely easy to work with. Everyone had a lot of fun, but could not wait to get to the reception to begin celebrating this wonderful couples’ new life together.
The reception was held at The Boat house at The Island Boatyard reception hall. It is a perfect mix of cozy, elegant and sophisticated. It has a very barn-like feeling to it with rustic wood ceilings studded with romantic chandeliers. Cocktail hour took place outside on Menantic Creek with views of West Neck Harbor and the Peconic River.
The catering was provided by Lombardis. All of the food looked delicious, and I can personally say that the roasted chicken, sliced beef, and pasta with bolognese were amazing. I visited the pasta station several times!
Kelly and Alex had approximately 150 of their closest friends and family partying the night away. The room was full of beautiful guests decked out in their best tuxedos, bow ties, and gowns – a true black tie evening. Cheers to a classy party, and an even classier couple!
